Happy Monday, Activists ~
Today we include a local action for our Philadelphia readers, to call and ask our Mayor, Cherelle Parker, to stand strong to protect our immigrant community. So far she has not been clear about what her administration will do when ICE is detaining Philadelphia immigrants. Philadelphia is a sanctuary city and our government must stand up to that promise.
And for everyone, please continue to call to ask our senators to vote NO on Russ Vought, perhaps the most dangerous cabinet pick, for very powerful Director of the Office of Management and Budget. The vote on him did not happen on Friday as expected, so we still have time to make an impact on our senators' vote.
ASK MAYOR PARKER TO SUPPORT OUR IMMIGRANT COMMUNITY
By honoring our city's sanctuary policy.
As we saw recently at a North Philly car wash, seven immigrants—most of whom have lived in the U.S. for over a decade—were detained by ICE. This devastating action tears families apart, spreads fear, and brings chaos and violence to our community -- children taken on their way to school, adults on their way to work - or too afraid to leave the house to go to work for fear they will be detained.
It is not enough for Mayor Parker's Administration to offer careful statements saying they are following the executive orders. We need clarity from her that she will defend the rights and dignity of our migrant families, refuse collaboration with ICE, and defend the Sanctuary City policy.
While the Sanctuary City policy does not block ICE agents from operating in Philadelphia, it does block part of the deportation machine by barring Philly police from collaboration, and helps keep families together.
Call our Mayor today and demand that our city stand against ICE’s harmful operations and defend our Sanctuary City policy. Tell her why defending our sanctuary policy is crucial for our community, and why we stand in support of immigrant families. Ask her to show courage and stand firm, and show us what love in policy truly looks like.
If you can, share your own reasons and a short story from a migrant friend, neighbor, or someone you know, to help illustrate that people and families are at the core of protecting sanctuary policies.

MAKE CALLS TO BLOCK RUSS VOUGHT
Please continue to call to ask our senators to vote NO on Russ Vought. As you know, he's a co-author of Project 2025, is a far right-wing hawk on expansive executive power and believes in using the military during civil unrest, slashing spending programs without Congress, and stripping federal workers of their protections. Yeah, he's that guy.
The chaos last week caused by the illegal spending freezes (and the court case, and then the supposed rescinding of the memo), we'll have to get used to it if Vought is voted in. Because all of that was Vought's idea. Remember that the Constitution does not permit a president to halt spending that Congress voted into law.
Call or email your senators and tell them to vote NO on this anti-democracy zealot.
