Happy Tuesday, Dear Activists,
Once again we need to begin our newsletter writing about sad news. One more time we see a president offering consoling words about the latest mass loss of life from gun violence, this time in Boulder, Colorado, only days after he did so following the mass shootings in Georgia. These are yet another reminder that our country still does not have reasonable gun safety laws.
We’re sure to hear more “thoughts and prayers” and Republican handwringing over the next few days, without any offer of a single piece of legislation to deal with it. We need to end gun violence now. Tell them (again) that enough is enough. People should be able to shop at the grocery store without fear of being shot. Now that we have the Democratic Trifecta we stand a chance of the Senate ending the filibuster and passing real gun violence prevention legislation, such as the two bills that passed in the House earlier this month. Let’s make calls and tell our senators what they need to do.
CALL TO ACTION
Sen. Toomey – Phila offices: 215-241-1090; D.C. 202-224-4254; email link
Sen. Casey – Phila office 215-405-9660; D.C. 202-224-6324 email link.
For outside PA – Find your Senators’ phone numbers and emails at this link.
Call Senator Casey and tell him we need to eliminate the filibuster and pass real gun violence prevention legislation. And while you're at it, tell him to vote yes on Democracy reform legislation like D.C statehood, S. 51, the THRIVE resolution, and S. 1, the For The People Act.
Call Senator Toomey and tell him enough is enough. We need stronger gun legislation than what he’s proposed. Tell him he must vote yes for comprehensive gun safety legislation like universal background checks and an assault weapons ban, for starters. And while you’re at it tell him he must vote yes for D.C. Statehood and the For The People Act (S. 1).
