SPECIAL MEETING TOMORROW - SCHUMER'S CAPITULATION

Greetings on a Sunday afternoon, Activists ~
We apologize for the intrusion into your Sunday. But we need to ask you to come to a meeting of our membership tomorrow/Monday evening to talk about what happened in the Senate on Friday. We'll keep this short.
We knew the fight to stop the GOP’s disastrous continuing resolution (CR), giving Trump and Musk even more power over our federal spending without any guardrails, would be a challenge. Democrats would need to be unified. This was the biggest moment of real leverage for Democrats all year, which was why we all were making calls for them to vote NO.
House Democrats showed their power with an almost-unanimous vote against the Republican CR in the House. This gave momentum as the vote moved to the Senate.
But instead of taking up the fight, Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, as chair of the Democratic Caucus in the Senate, chose to fully surrender. His decision to support a vote to allow the CR to advance, giving other Senate Dems a pass to do the same, was a total capitulation to the Trump/Musk coup. House Democrats stood strong -- but because of Schumer, Senate Democrats turned their backs on the people and caved under pressure. Instead of stopping the coup, their vote has enabled it to continue.
This is an inexcusable failure. Indivisibles are angry about this betrayal, and it calls into question Schumer's ability to lead an effective opposition in Congress in this crucial moment.
And that is the nature of this meeting. We ask you to come out on zoom so we can present information and answer your questions about this issue. We'll also ask whether Indivisible Philadelphia should call for Senator Schumer to step down from his leadership of the Democratic Caucus in the Senate.
