Polls Are Open--Use Your Power!

Happy Tuesday, Activists!

"Nobody will ever deprive the American people of the right to vote except the American people themselves and the only way they could do this is by not voting."

~ Franklin D. Roosevelt

FDR was right - voting is our super power. And what’s at stake in this election? Our courts! So after you use your power today, remind your friends, neighbors and family!

You can view all of our election resources in last Friday’s newsletter.

In case you need help at the polls: PA Dems Voter Protection Hotline: 833-PAVOTES (833-728-6837) or go to vote.pa.gov

Here’s where things stand on some of our key issues in Washington.

First, reconciliation: Last week, President Biden said he had the 51 votes needed to pass BBB into law in the Senate – it’s time for him to prove it. Rep. Pramila Jayapal, chair of the House Progressive Caucus, said yesterday “We intend to pass both bills through the House in the next couple of days.”

So the President must secure Manchin and Sinema’s support for this critical bill, as he said he could.

Next, democracy reform: Senator Schumer says he will bring the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to the floor for a vote tomorrow. Republicans will likely filibuster it – just like they did with the Freedom to Vote Act a few weeks ago – teeing up a big filibuster showdown once the Senate is finished with reconciliation.

CALLS TO ACTION

1. Call your representative and tell them how important it is that we pass an inclusive recovery bill that works for everyone. THEN, call our senators and demand they pass the bill as soon as it comes over from the House.

2. Call our senators and tell them to pass the Freedom to Vote Act. This democracy reform bill can’t wait. Tell them to adjust the filibuster now to pass the bill asap.

3. Call Senator Casey and tell him it is urgent that he vote to protect reproductive rights and vote YES on the Women's Health Protection Act, aimed at preserving access to an abortion nationwide. The bill has passed in the House now has to pass in the Senate.

This brings us to our action next week to tell the Senate that it’s Time To Act to preserve our democracy. Join us for a 30-minute rally.
