New: Reproductive Freedom Meeting

Happy Friday, Activists! We hope your week has been a good one. We have scheduled a new meeting that we know you will be interested in, given the leaked draft Supreme Court ruling overturning Roe v. Wade and abortion rights protections.

NEW MEETING - WOMEN'S REPRODUCTIVE FREEDOM Join us to hear from an expert on the Supreme Court and on laws governing women’s reproductive freedom. Our speaker will be Kathryn Kolbert, co-author of the recently published book Controlling Women: What We Must Do Now to Save Reproductive Freedom. In 1992, Kolbert argued before the United States Supreme Court in Planned Parenthood v. Casey, the seminal case that challenged abortion regulations in Pennsylvania. The ruling modified but upheld the rights established in Roe v. Wade. It is now in danger of being overruled along with Roe, as described in the recently leaked draft opinion in Dobbs vs. Jackson Women's Health concerning Mississippi's abortion law. This meeting is scheduled for when we expect the Dobbs ruling to be final and published. Kathryn will also talk about the freedoms that are based on the same right to privacy in Roe and that the Court may strip away in the future. We’ll learn how to plan our strategy to combat and prevent these regressive and dystopian laws. What: Reproductive Freedom with Kathryn Kolbert When: July 14, 5:30 pm Where: Zoom Sign up here. Kathryn spoke at our meeting back in November after the Court ruled on the Texas abortion law. You can watch the video from that meeting. After you sign up, you can find our list of organizations around the country that you can support to help the most vulnerable women in need of services to avoid forced births.

REACH VOTERS WITH US! The most important and effective way to persuade voters to go to the polls is to talk to them! We have the opportunities for you to do it. Check out our many upcoming voter outreach events and sign up at this link. Read about them in a recent newsletter at this link.

A NOTE ABOUT CALLING & EMAILING OUR MoCs Yesterday we had our monthly call with one of Senator Casey's staffers. She told us that after the draft in the Dobbs case was leaked their Philadelphia office was "slammed" with calls. Women called and told their abortion stories and their families' stories and others just expressed their deep concerns about the ruling. She confirmed that these messages were very impactful and really mattered. Remember, as she also confirmed, that the opinions expressed in every call and every email are logged as long as the caller gives their zip code to confirm they are a constituent. At the end of every week Senator Casey gets a readout of all of the calls describing what is on his constituents' minds. So when we make those calls it matters!
