Democracy Needs

3 Weeks Oh My! Until Election Day

"Democracy needs a ground to stand on and that ground is the truth."

Congressman Jamie Raskin during the movie The Sixth

Happy Tuesday, Activists!

We hope you had a great weekend.  Let's get started.   As we've said, if you've been waiting to start taking action to get out the vote, or to expand what you're doing, now is the time!  We have a fun new video below to inspire action!

The most important and effective action you can take is talking to voters at their door.  I'm ready to stop begging and to just start telling it like it is.  If you care about this election; if you care about our democracy; if you care about what the future will hold if the other guy is elected, then it's time for you - if you are at all able and not doing it already - to get out of your comfort zone and try out canvassing.  It is filled with wonderful canvassers who you will love meeting.  And the voters have been fantastic.  They just need a nudge to make sure they vote.  We make it fun, and you can go with an experienced canvasser too.

At this point we are only doing GOTV work, not trying to persuade voters to vote for our side.  And we don't target a Republican MAGA door!  And we feed you!!!!!  What's better than that?  So please consider this (see, I'm begging again).  If you have any questions/concerns at all, please reply to this newsletter and we can have a chat, no problem!

No matter what, the way to reduce our anxiety about this election is to keep working for a win.  So sign up to join one of the many options below.  We are proud to be doing this with you!

Here's are most of the folks from our crew this past Sunday!

Finally, want to head west to canvass for the super important PA-08? Congressman Matt Cartwright is a terrific Democrat but he's in a purple district and always needs a boost of canvassers.  Swing Left is providing busses on November 3rd to go out there and canvass for Harris/Walz, Senator Casey, and Congressman Cartwright.  It's in partnership with Stand Up America, Vote Save America, and the Pennsylvania Democratic Party.  Click below to see all the details.  Sign up here

VOTER REGISTRATION

Register students on college campuses

Join NextGen registering new voters on college campuses all over the city and state.

And speaking of Democracy needing facts, watch and share this video about Project 2025, School House Rock Style.  Share it with anyone you know who may not realize what this project says, and send it to people who can share it themselves!

PHONE BANKING

Calling and talking to voters is super effective!

The technology for talking to voters when we make calls has really improved, so if you haven't tried this recently, try it now.  You'll have more conversations.

Call Florida Voters for Kamala TONIGHT at 6pm ET/3pm PT. Florida is home to one of the most competitive red-to-blue Senate pickup opportunities of the election and could very well decide control of the chamber -- help us reach out to Sunshine State voters in support of Debbie Mucarsel-Powell and Kamala Harris.

Indivisible and Gaslit Nation Phone Bank October 17 at 7pm ET/4pm PT. Join Indivisible and Andrea Chalupa of Gaslit Nation for a phonebank into key states like Montana and Missouri.

Call Ohio Voters for Sherrod Brown and Kamala Harris on Monday, October 21 at 6:30pm ET/3:30pm PT. If we hope to hold our Senate majority, it's critical we do everything we can to re-elect Sherrod Brown this November! Join our phonebank into Ohio and help us reach out to voters in support of Sherrod Brown for US Senate and Kamala Harris for President.

Here is a list of the upcoming Indivisible phone banks into key areas of swing states to tell voters about the Harris/Walz team. Click here to find one that works for you!

Also - You can make calls to PA voters with Promote the Vote PA and Turn PA Blue - lots of choices!

HELP THE SUSAN WILD CAMPAIGN

So many of you tell us you want to help Congresswoman Susan Wild's campaign - a great Member of Congress who fights every two years to keep her seat in a very purple District.  Here is how you can do it!

Does Someone You Know Have A Secrecy Envelope That Arrived Sealed?

If a voter is unable to neatly open and re-seal the secrecy envelope they need a new one.

NOTE THAT A VOTER SHOULD NEVER CUT OR SLICE THEIR SECRECY ENVELOPE OPEN, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER THEY ARE GIVEN THAT ADVICE BY OTHERS.

In both Montco and Philadelphia you can (1) go to the Board of Elections or another early voting location and obtain replacement ballot/envelope; (2) in the case of Montco, complete and return the Request to Cancel Ballot and Issue Replacement form to get a replacement ballot; and (3) in the case of Philadelphia, complete the Replacement Ballot Request Form to get a replacement ballot or materials.

Want to Drive Voters To The Polls?

Movement Briefings Help Us Spread The Truth

In 2020, the progressive movement defied expectations and precedent, coordinating strategy and messaging, tactics and objectives, to defend our electoral victory as a collective. We fought back fascist candidates across the US in 2022 and we must continue that same level of collaboration and messaging discipline to keep winning policies and campaigns to improve our lives.

Sign up below to join this growing community.  You'll receive invites to movement briefings and research and brilliant messaging guidance built on research from Research Collaborative.

You can register and join the next briefing:

WHAT: Freedom Over Fascism Movement Briefing

VOTER PROTECTION WORK

You can sign up now for working at a polling place and other work to protect the vote this year.  The PA Voter Protection Volunteer Team has lots of opportunities, both in person & remote. They will have many trainings for you over the next month or two.

The Dems need thousands of poll observers on Election Day, as well as other important roles. Each role starts with you signing up for the one-hour virtual training before we start the assignment process. If you haven’t done so already, it is very helpful for planning purposes if you sign up for training sooner rather than later.

VOLUNTEER WITH THE HARRIS CAMPAIGN

Please see the most critical needs below:

In-Person Roles:

Poll Observer

In this Election Day role, you will be the eyes and ears of the campaign: documenting issues, solving problems, answering questions as they arise.Poll Observers will be assigned to serve as either an “Inside” or “Outside” Observer. Full and half day shifts available.

Sign up for other Voter Protection work here.

Canvass Observer

Canvass Observers monitor the process of counting ballots (called “canvassing ballots” in PA). These are 6 hour shifts running from 7 am on Election Day until the count is finalized, which could be several days later.

Sign up for a one-hour Zoom training here: Canvass Observer Training

Designated Agent

Pennsylvania’s voters with disabilities are entitled to limited assistance in casting their mail-in ballots. From now until November 5th, we’re looking for volunteers to help them as Designated Agents–a multi-step process in which the volunteer serves as an authorized liaison between the voter and the elections office.

Complete this form if interested: Designated Agent Signup Form

Ballot Cure Calls

Ballot cure volunteers help voters fix their mailed-in ballots that are at risk of rejection.

Sign up for a Ballot Cure Phone Bank here: Ballot Cure Phone Bank (more times will be added soon)

Volunteer Recruitment Calls

We run weekly two-hour phonebanks to call supporters interested in voter protection and get them signed up for volunteer shifts.
